In 2005, two accomplished, well-respected and established powerhouses named Desdamona and Carnage The Executioner decided to expand their already broadened knacks for creativity. The formation of a sought-after super-duo appropriately called “ill chemistry” was born. Combining Desdamona’s soulfully-uttered, thought-provoking, heart-warming lyrics and quirky sounds with Carnage’s cleverly-executed, uncanny human beat box/vocal percussion skills and off-the-wall rapping delivers to listeners and spectators a raw, Old School Hip-Hop sound. Their live show is not only extremely energetic and engaging, but it’s versatile enough to entertain a variety of crowd types. Whether performing for rock music lovers, youth in schools of all ages, whole families, at weddings, or for senior citizens, ill chemistry always inspires awe. No matter the setting, they manage keep the people wondering what they will come up with next.
With no instruments and no pre-recorded tracks, ill chemistry’s act takes the “make Hip-Hop from scratch” motto to a mind-blowing level. By 2006, ill chemistry had only been working together for one year when they were nominated for the MN Music Award for Best Hip Hop Group.
ill chemistry released their highly-anticipated, self-titled debut album in January 2012 on French Jazz music label, Nato/Hopestreet Records. The album features both Carnage and Desdamona sharing vocalist duties, with Carnage performing all drums and basslines by beat boxing. The music is acutely constructed with Carnage & Desdamona’s voices. The album received rave reviews in France and sparked notable media attention in the United States before it was imported. ill chemistry played the well-attended Sons d’hiver Music Festival and completed an initial tour of Europe to support their album in February and April 2012. This tour was followed up by the group making 3 more European festival appearances, as well as 3 more tours of Europe that followed.
Desdamona released her debut solo album, “The Ledge” in mid 2005. Desdamona’s sophomore album, “The Source” and Carnage’s debut solo album, “Sense Of Sound” were released about one month apart in the summer of 2007. Carnage’s sophomore album, “Worth The Wait” was released in early 2011. Carnage released his magnum opus in fall of 2012 with “Respect The Name.” Both have gone on to release even more high-work as solo artist – while still performing live together. The two have even managed to collaborate on one another’s projects.
Since ill chemistry was created, the group has shared stages with Method Man, Rza, Atmosphere, Yelawolf, Zap Mama, Les Nubians, Guru of Gangstarr, Members of Mint Condition, Medusa, Pam The Funkstress, Sadat X, Eyedea & Abilities – and many more. If you haven’t heard their releases or encountered these two live, you have deprived yourself severely! Get a late pass and witness the illest of chemistry soon…You can even thank yourself in advance!
